3rd October 2026 - Week Four
Monday.
M.P.s were at home to Formby Bay Horse. The away team led from the start and it was 20 to 15 in their favour at half time. They consolidated their lead in the second half and finished winners 43 to 32. Chris Hodgen was the top scorer for M.P.s with 13, with Ann Evans on 11. A fine 17 for David Dutton meant he was Formby Bay Horse’s top scorer supported by Sheila Tickle on 13. In this match there were 22 2 pointers and 11 unanswered questions.
Southport Grasshopper played their stablemates Cavallette and secured their first victory of the season when they won 41 to 36. They led throughout and were 25 to 18 in front at the halfway stage.. 4 rounds were drawn. David Phillips scored a very good 17 for the home team. Mike Taylor and Mick Hopkins scored 11 and 10 respectively. Kate Woods was Cavallette’s top scorer with good 16. There were 24 2 pointers and 10 unanswered questions in this contest.
Tuesday
Exams hosted a match against Fishermen’s Rest. The away team won every round and finished with a comfortable victory of 48 to 31, having been in the lead 26 to 15 at the half way stage. Nick Philpott was the top scorer for the home team with a fine 17.Harry Owen with an impressive 18 led the scoring for the away team and was this week’s top scorer. He was supported by Alan Ascott and John Clarke who both scored 12.There were 26 2 pointers and 9 unanswered questions in this match.
Ex Pats were at home to Wings. The first round was drawn and then Wings went on to establish a lead and were 9 points ahead at halftime - 23 to 14. The final result was a win for the away team of 43 to 35 .Peter Lyth led the scoring for Ex Pats with 13. For Wings Tom Farley was the top scorer with a good 15. His teammates Steve Davies and Keith Mulhearn scored 11 and 10 respectively.
E Street Band played Mixed Blues but were unable to repeat last week’s performance. Mixed Blues won the first round 8- 2 and had an 8 point lead at the halfway stage. The away team continued well and were 7 points ahead going into the final round. Although the home team for whom Nick Aindow made his debut won this round it didn’t stop Mixed Blues from recording their first win of the season of 43 to 32. Alan Wright led the scoring for E.S.B with 11.Bill Morris with a good 15 was the top scorer for Mixed Blues with Ed Davies on 12. In this contest there were 22 2 pointers and 10 unanswered questions.
Grapes of Wrath played at home against Aardvark Bold. Despite having only 3 players the away team had a comfortable victory of 39 to 25. At halftime they led 20 to 14 and built on this lead in the second half. Jack Gardner with 13 was the home team’s top scorer. Dave Leyland with a very good 15 led the scoring for the away team Andy Dean scored 13 and John Richards 11. There were 15 2 pointers and14 unanswered questions in this match.
26th September 2026 - Week Three
Monday
Aardvark Bold were at home against Southport Grasshopper. The away team led 13 to 12 after 3 rounds. The home team took the next round to be in the lead 19 to 17 at the halfway stage way. They consolidated this lead to be in front going into the final round at 33 to 25. Southport Grasshopper won that round but Aardvark secured a victory 36 to 29. Brian Cummins with 10 was the home team’s top scorer while Mick Hopkins scored 13 for the away team. There were 14 2 pointers and 14 unanswered questions in this match.
Mixed Blues who had just 3 players in their team played Exams. At half time it was all square on 15 each and the teams were still drawing after round 5. However, in the next 3 rounds Mixed Blues scored 5 points whereas Exams scored 17 points to finish winners by 36 to 24. Bill Morris and Paul Tandy led the scoring for the home team with 10 each . Tuesday
Cavallette hosted a match against M.P.s The away team led from the start and it was 21 to 16 in their favour at the half way stage. In the second half M.P.s won 3 of the rounds and 1 was drawn, thus giving the away team a comfortable victory of 45 to 31. For Cavallette the leading scorers were Kate Woods and Alan Martin with 13 each. Chris Hodgen led the scoring for M.P.s with a fine 16. He was supported by Dan Evans with a good 15 and Ann Evans with 10. There were 19 2 pointers and 6 unanswered questions in this match.
Formby Bay Horse were at home to E.S.B. and they were in the lead at half time 26 to 24. The away team won rounds 5,6 and 7 to give them a lead of 6 points going into the final round. Although all the home team answered their own question in this round East Street Band scored 5 points to see them take the contest 49 points to 46. Ray Oakes with a fine 17 was the top scorer for Formby Bay Horse. His team mates Dave Dutton and Sheila Tickle scored 11 and 10 respectively. Quads played at home against Ex Pats who were another team with just 3 players. The home team took the first 3 rounds to give them a 6 point lead and it was 23 to 19 in their favour at the half way stage.Subsequent rounds were fairly close and Quads finished with a win of 41 to 34. Richard Farbon with an impressive 18 was the leading scorer for the home team and this week’s top scorer. He was supported by wife Barbara on 11. Kath Jackson and Don Hobson each scored 13 for ExPats. There were 25 2 pointers and 12 unanswered questions in this match.
Wings were at home against Grapes of Wrath. Wings were the third team this week to field only 3 players. However, this didn’t stop them from having a comfortable victory over their opponents of 45 to 28. They led by 9 points at halftime ,having won the first 4 rounds. The next 2 rounds were drawn but Wings scored 15 points as opposed to the away team’s 7 in rounds 7 and 8 to win the match. Maurice Wright led the scoring for the home team with a fine 17. Keith Mulhearn scored a very good 16 and Tom Farley scored 12. In this contest there were 24 2 pointers and 14 unanswered questions.
18th September 2026 - Week Two
Monday
Fisherman’s Rest played Mixed Blues who didn't find the quiz to their liking. The score at halftime was 21 to 10 in favour of the home team. Fisherman’s Rest consolidated their lead in the second-half and finished winners 42 to 23. Harry Owen and Dave Williams led the scoring with 13 each for the home team. In this match there were 17 two pointers and 15 unanswered questions.
MPs were at home to Aardvark Bold and had a comfortable 44-27 victory. MPs were without 2 regulars and the landlady of the Mount, Jo, stepped in to play. This proved to be a good move as she was the home team's top scorer with a fine 15.Dan Evans scored 12. For the away team Andy Dean was top scorer on 10. MPs led throughout the game. It was 23 to 14 at halftime. They won seven of the 8 rounds. There were 19 two pointers and 11 unanswered questions in this contest.
Southport Grasshoppers played Wings at home and it proved to be a tough match for them as Wings won 62 -26. The away team led throughout and it was 30 to 14 in their favour at the halfway stage. Mick Hopkins was the top scorer for the home team with 12. All the Wings players were in double figures. Again, Dag Griffiths just missed out on a full house with a very impressive 19. Tom Farley scored a good 16 and Keith Mulhearn scored a good 15. Maurice Wright scored 12. There were 29 two pointers and five unanswered questions in this match.
Tuesday
Exams hosted a match against Formby Bay Horse and led for the first 4 rounds. It was 26 to 24 at the halfway stage. However, in the second-half Formby Bay Horse won all four rounds and finished up winning the fixture 53 -43. Exams top scorer was Jim Quigley on 13. He was supported by Robin Speakman on 12 and Nick Philpott on 11. All the away team were in double figures. Their leading scorer with a very good 17 was Alastair Gillespie. Sheila Tickle scored 13. Bill Thomas scored12 and Dave Dutton 11. There were 36 two pointers in this match and just three unanswered questions.
E Street Band had a comfortable 51-34 win over Cavallette. They won the opening round 9-3 and they went on to lead throughout. It was 28 to 15 at the halfway stage for the home team. Geoff Hedley and Dave Nickeas led the scoring for ESB with a good 15 each. Alan Wright scored 12. Dave Palmer and Alan Martin both scored 10 for the away team. Grapes of Wrath were at home to Quads. At halftime the score was 18 to 23. Although there were a few close rounds Quads scored more 2 pointers to finish with an 11 point victory 48-37. For the home team Derek Roberts and Keith Wilkinson scored 11 each. For Quads Adrian Cannell scored an excellent 21 points, making him this week's top scorer. Teammate Steve Bray scored 11. 10th September 2026 - Week One
Welcome to a new season. There was only one match on Monday when Aardvark Bold played their former stable mates East Street Band.
Aardvark only had two players which made the match rather one sided. At halftime the score was 10-30 in favour of East Street Band. ESB continued to do well in the second half. The final score was 23-55. Brian Cummins scored 13 for the home side, with John Richards 10. All East Street Band were in double figures. Alan Wright was the lead scorer with a fine 17. Geoff Hedley and Dave Nickeas both played well with 14 each. Dave Twigge scored 10. 22 2 pointers were scored and there were 9 unanswered questions.
Tuesday’s matches
Cavallette were at home to Exams. They led for four rounds and then it was 27 each at the end of round 5.Going into the final round the home team were just 2 points ahead. However, they won the final round 6 to 1 to give them a victory of 40 to 33. For Cavallette Kate Woods scored an impressive 21. Nick Philpott on 12 and Jim Quigley on 11 were the leading scorers for Exams. There were 22 2 pointers and 13 unanswered questions in this contest.
In their home match against Grapes of Wrath Ex Pats trailed for 3 rounds. They won round 4 by 7 to 1 to make it level at the half way stage at 20 each. In the second half the home team won 2 rounds, the away team 1 and 1 was drawn.The final score was 35 to 32. Peter Lyth led the scoring for Ex Pats with a fine 16. Formby Bay Horse played a close match against Fisherman’s Rest. The home side won the opening round 8-5 with the away side winning the next three rounds 8-6, 8-6, 8-4 to lead 24-29 at halftime. After Round 7 the Bay Horse were 2 points behind but clinched the win by winning the final round 8-2. the match finished 50-46. For the home team Sheila tickle scored an impressive 19 (one answer short of a full house). Sheila was supported by Ray Oakes on a very good 17, with Dave Dutton scoring 10. For the away team Harry Owen was the leading scorer with a very good 15. His team mates John Clarke and Alan Ascott scored 13 and 12 respectively. MPs had a good first half in their away match at Wings and were one point ahead at the change around. However, Wings took the lead by winning the fifth round 9-4. They kept the lead for the remainder of the quiz winning the final round 10-0 to give them a comfortable victory of 56-38.
